Problem: Built a real-time AI assistant for a client product, replacing a static FAQ system with a conversational agent that retains context across a session. Key decision: Chose WebSockets over HTTP polling because sub-200ms response latency was a product requirement — SSE was considered but ruled out for bidirectional control. Outcome: Shipped to production with multi-session support, conversation memory via PostgreSQL, and streaming that begins displaying output in under 300ms.
